Tasting progression

First third

First draws with absolutely zero bitterness or harshness: smooth, creamy, buttery, and floral. The Meerapfel wrapper carries a unique cold aroma with slight mint and eucalyptus. Subtle fresh fragrant citrus, cumquat, sweetness, and tamarind arrive with hazelnut nuttiness. The notes meld into something unique, hard to describe, and unforgettable. Smoke volume is dense but feels light.

Second third

Gentle woodiness develops, more birch or eucalyptus than oak, still with zero spice or pepper. Creamy texture without the butteriness of something like Cuban Trinidad. Sweet bread, salted caramel, and baking spices come forward: milk chocolate, light roast coffee, cardamom, slight cinnamon without heat, and muscovado sugar.

Final third

Strength builds consistently. Not traditionally spicy, but a strong cardamom tingle appears on the retrohale. Flavours remain unique yet subtle, deep yet refreshing. Still not a single moment of bitterness or unpleasant taste. Smoke stays juicy and full through the finish.

Final Verdict

For this reviewer, a more perfect cigar cannot be imagined. The only issues are price and delicacy. It must be stored very carefully because it can lose its oils and subtle flavours and become a very average cigar. Of three sticks tried, the first and last were incredible, while one with dubious storage showed a darkened, less oily wrapper and lacked the magical Meerapfel profile despite coming from a well-regarded retailer. Inspect personally before purchasing. These cigars are in regular but extremely limited annual production, so be cautious of leftover boxes when most retailers are sold out. The wrapper is incredibly delicate. The heritage of the Meerapfel family shows, especially their mythologized Cuban influence: Cameroon at its best, nodding to Trinidad butteriness and Dominican Fuente and Davidoff creaminess while daring with citrus, tamarind, cardamom, eucalyptus, or honestly a flavour that can only be described as Meerapfel.
